The History of Byron

Byron was formed in 1904 by a Mr Charles Hands, a gentleman selling bell pushes from a shed at the bottom of his garden! The business developed and it was sold to my Grand-father, Mr Arnold White in 1970. At that time the business was split into two divisions; one for electrical accessories and one for machined turned parts. Eventually the turned part business was sold and his daughter, Penni Anderson took over the running of the business in 1990 following her father’s retirement.

Byron today is a vibrant go-ahead Company willing to embrace change, we like to think we give our customers a first class service and indeed the feedback we receive leads us to believe we achieve our aims.

In recent years our business has expanded and grown mainly due to the efforts of our amazing team of people. It is a straight-forward and effective business philosophy that has reaped rich rewards and in 2004 saw Byron celebrate the centenary of its founding.

From humble beginnings in the heart of the West Midlands, we now export to diverse markets throughout the world while continuing to satisfy the domestic electrical wholesale and retail markets.

Byron now employs over 30 people, and yet we hope, retains the warm, service-led feel of a family business.

In a further move to bolster efficiency, we relocated Byron and it’s entire team in 2004 to Bromsgrove in Worcestershire consolidating its two stock holding areas and office functions at a single, purpose-built facility.

In 2005 our company was purchased by Europe’s largest distributor of Electrical Accessories, Roos Electronics part of Spijker Holdings, enabling Byron to extend its offering to include Lighting, CCTV, Smoke Alarms, Home Alarms and Child and Home Safety.

I took over the position of Managing Director in September 2008 with a wonderful Management Team:- Ross Anderson (Director) Phyllis Bartley and Craig Mander. Today’s market is a very different one from the ones we have experienced in the last century and with it comes new challenges, but I hope the next 100 years are as successful and would like to thank all our customers and staff, present and past for their support through the years.

Kind Regards,

Rebecca Mander
Managing Director
